Help for the best and hardest job in the world…

As adults, we’re pretty awesome at a lot of things.
We tackle big challenges in our careers, our finances, and our health. We build impressive things. We write legal documents. We manage teams and conferences and estates and classrooms.
But when it comes to parenting, we often feel surprisingly unsure whether we know what we’re doing at all.
We love these kids of ours with a love so fierce and strong, and yet, half the time we shake our heads and wonder if we’re getting it all wrong and why this parenting gig is so darn hard???
Raising these hilarious, amazing, wild little humans of ours is both tough and tremendous, precious and perplexing, all at the same time.
In fact, I don’t know about you, but it’s not uncommon for me to feel totally conflicting things at any given moment:
Looking forward to a quiet empty nest, while wishing I could just freeze time and keep my children exactly as they are in this moment.
Desperately longing for some peace and quiet, while loving the chaos and life surrounding me.
Wishing everyone would stop saying, “Mom! Mom! Mom!” even as I’m craving conversation with these fascinating little people of mine.
No matter what your day has been like…
…whether you locked yourself in the bathroom to cry after you blew up at your kids.
…or if “Mama needs some alone time” evolved into hiding in the pantry and inhaling a bag of dark chocolate chips.
…or your budding artist decided today was the day to create a mural on the living room wall with your colored Sharpies…
There’s one thing you already know.
Sometimes parenting is awesome. And sometimes it’s not.
You’ll take the not-so-awesome parts along with the beautiful parts. Because it’s so worth it.
But if you could find resources to help make it a little more awesome and a lot less hard?
It’d be a no-brainer!
Well, look no further, because I found something that might be just what you need: The Parenting Super Bundle.

For six days only, you can get your hands on a package full of resources to help you rock this parenting gig even more, for the most affordable price ever. (Seriously, just wait until I tell you the price.)
This brand-new bundle includes 35 ebooks, 10 eCourses, 23 printables, 9 workbooks, 2 audios, and 1 membership site.
These top-quality resources cover everythingyou need to make parenting feel less stressful (and more fun!)… chore charts, discipline methods and ideas, strategies for tough challenges (for kids and for parents), printable craft ideas, homeschooling helps, and so much more.
For less than the cost of a gallon of paint to touch up your little Picasso’s mural, you’ll get a complete library to help you:

  • Apply step-by-step solutions to common challenges like whining, arguing, homework, and lack of cooperation
  • Build stronger relationships with your kids (even your teens)
  • Stop playing referee in sibling battles (and teach them how to work things out)
  • Instill gratitude, kindness, and helpfulness in your child
  • Become a kinder, more intentional parent
  • and feel encouraged and inspired in your parenting.

  • Plus, it comes with over $100 worth of bonus offers from companies you’ll love (this is one of my favorite parts).
You sort of need to see it to believe it, but the package includes 80 digital products and it’s worth over $1270!
Besides being so incredibly helpful, one of the things I like best about the bundle is the price. By offering it for a short time only, they’re able to give you access to over $1270 worth of amazing products for a whopping 98% off!

    Here’s how it works:
    1. Visit their website, take a quick look at all the goodness that comes in this package, then click the “Get my copy now!” button to go through their simple and secure 3-step checkout process.
    2. You’ll receive an email with a login to their online access portal, where you’ll begin downloading your eBooks, signing up for your eCourses, and redeeming your free bonus offers.
    3. Use their Getting Started Guide to pick the topic you want to tackle first and give you joy in your parenting journey!
The most important detail, though, is that this bundle is available for just six days!
After Monday night, August 14th, the sale ends and you’d have to buy all of these products individually.
I’d hate for you to miss out, so click HERE (https://us154.isrefer.com/go/PARSB2017/a3732/) to learn more or buy the bundle.
It’s even backed by a 100% happiness guarantee, so you can make sure it’s right for you.
As you already know, parenting is amazing and difficult. Enjoying it even on the craziest of days is not impossible.

You don’t need to be a perfect parent to raise great kids, but if you (like me) could use a little help, learn more or get your bundle HERE
(Psst… the bundle goes away at 11:59 pm Eastern on Monday, August 14th, so don’t wait!)

Social Media and Tech Savvy Kids: Can You Catch Up?

Now, I love the internet and my social media sites, they are not ALL bad if they are used in the right ways.
The growth of the internet has opened the world to so many opportunities for learning, education and connection. As a homeschool family we use the internet daily for learning and education, but we also know that being online can be a huge time waster if we don't watch out.
As a mom I have tried my best to keep up with the latest technology and social media sites that my children might be visiting. All three of my kids are tech savvy and have a passion for being online.
I realized that I must stay at the same level with them and educate myself about all the possible social media sites out there. This includes knowing what apps are on their phones and what sites are visited via their laptops.

How technology and socially savvy are your kids? How close do you watch their activity on social media sites? You may think you are a media smart parent, but even the smartest of parents may not know just what those kids are up too. Letting your guard down even for a little while can have dire consequences.
Long gone are the days that we worried about our kids sneaking out and meeting others down the street in the middle of the night. Today they can be talking to anyone, anywhere in the world, right in their bedroom via their cell phone. With the advancements in technology our smartphones have almost gotten too smart. Webcams, cameras, gps tracking devices and many different apps can tell a child predator exactly where your child is and just how to lure them out and away from the safety of your home.
Case in point 13 year old Nicole Lovell, a middle school student who was killed by 2 college students just recently after being lured by one of them via the social media app named "KiK". Apparently the 13 year old was social media savvy and a victim of bullying, the college student took advantage of that and used it against her for his own selflessness. Such a beautiful young life gone.....
Middle schooler "Nicole Lovell" age 13 stabbed to death

Do you regularly check your children's phones? laptops, tablets etc? why not? Do you ask them what they are doing? Do you discuss the risks of posting online photos, tweets or posts that might not be smart or might harm someone else?

Parental controls can also be a tool to use for parents, many cell phone and internet providers have this. Control when and how your kids are accessing the internet. No cell phones at bedtime, it is proven to affect their sleep.
Educate yourself on all the latest social media sites, apps and language that is used in text messaging. You are the parent, you pay the bills remember that.
Tomorrow we will explore more of those social media and smart phone apps that you might need to know about.....stay tuned

How Do You Homeschool or Life-School with Chronic Illness In The Way? #homeschooling #lifeschool #chronicillness

So how do you homeschool your children effectively if you are depressed or chronically ill?
Maybe you have a parent that is sick or your spouse is sick?
Believe it or not those are some of the best reason's on earth to homeschool or "life-school" ,as we call it here at our house, your children.

In 2009 my father passed away from a long battle with 3 different types of cancer, first prostate, then colon, and finally the nasty liver cancer devil took hold and would not let go. I feel blessed that he was able to spend an additional 10 years with us here on earth due to the advances of modern medicine. Homeschooling enabled my 3 children to travel back and forth from NC to SC with me to stay with him anytime we wanted to, even when he was in a hospice house facility, they were right there at his side. Those years we will never get back and will cherish forever. They learned lessons that traditional schools can never teach.

Fast forward to 2013 the unthinkable begins to unfold, our beloved grandmother, my momma starts failing fast with pneumonia that ends up being " lung cancer" that has eaten thru to her ribs. She was so ill and hospitalized after falling at home unconscious due to sepsis. My youngest daughter stayed with me in SC to help care for her until she passed away the first night in hospice ( we still believe my daddy came to get her that night, they are now together in heaven).

My husband and I both have chronic illness's, my husband is now disabled and home all the time now, which has been good for our homeschool actually. He is a great help to me when my kids need some extra motivation (if you know what I mean), especially on Mondays since I work night shift on the weekends as an ER nurse and need my sleep.

The number one thing to share about homeschooling if you or your family have a chronic illness is flexibility! You have to learn how to be flexible and that it is very ok to do things your own way.
We learned a long time ago that a more eclectic style of schooling (using many different styles of homeschooling) worked great for our family, even some un-schooling at times works for us. As long as your children are learning and growing, happy and healthy what else matters.....right!

We use a variety of online sites including Time4Learning and The Khan Academy in addition to You-tube videos to learn. I like to print off worksheets if we are on the road or need some extra practice on a particular topic. You can find many free or cheaper sites to print worksheets, such as TeachersPayTeachers, Educents, ABCTeach, and Enchanted Learning. There are so many more and many are listed here on my blog if you search for my older articles.

No matter what you use, as long as your kids are learning, thriving and growing in knowledge, nothing else matters. Others will try to tell you how to school your children, but you are their parent, you know what is best for each one. Don't let others sway your decisions or sink your ship. You are fabulous and you know it!!

Celebrate Pi Day With Some Kitchen Math

CREDITPHOTOGRAPH BY JEFFREY COOLIDGE / GETTY
"To infinity and beyond" Pi day is just another day to most people, unless you realize the significance of this year's "Pi" day..... 3-14-15 (teaching moment here people)
No it's not a day to make and eat yummy pies as my youngest daughter thought it was, even though we are celebrating this math wonder by making pie.
"Pi" does deserve some celebration and education. Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi is a constant number, meaning that for all circles of any size, Pi will be the same.
The diameter of a circle is the distance from edge to edge, measuring straight through the center. The circumference of a circle is the distance around.

So let's have some fun in the kitchen now and learn some math while we cook!

    Brownie Marshmallow Fudge Pie
This easy to make and take pie is a great kid friendly helper recipe. Using math in the kitchen is a great way to teach life skills that your homeschoolers will remember later on. I keep a vast assortment of measuring tools in my kitchen to help teach them weights and measures.
(double the ingredients and use a larger pan for cooking)
    Need these ingredients:
    • Brownie box mix (make 8×8 pan size)
    • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
    • 1 cup marshmallows (any size)
    • 1 chocolate frosting (Can of "creamy home style frosting")
Prepare brownie as shown in the box, add nuts to the mixture, and bake as indicated by the box.
When ready remove from oven and add the marshmallow, bake for 3 minutes more or until the marshmallows are golden brown, remove from oven.
Heat in microwave the chocolate frosting approximately 30 seconds to make it more liquid.
Pour over brownie (do not use everything, just a little, use 1/4 of the can.)
    Cool and serve!

    Happy homeschooling

Depression: Learning How To Sail My Ship

How many of you suffer from depression, sadness ,dysthymia, constant feelings of worthlessness or guilt over something out of your control? Well join the club sista, we are all in this together!
Depression is a life sucking debilitating problem that has followed me for many years now, beginning when I was a teenager.
I have learned to hide my sadness fairly well until the last few years, I am usually a smiling happy go lucky appearing person on the outside, in public mostly. My family can attest that at home it is a totally different story. Home is where you find me in bed on bad days, no energy to do anything, up all night due to insomnia. On medication I am better some days, but it is a constant struggle to get anything done.
Slowly and day by day, I am learning how to sail my ship myself with prayerful guidance from above.
Without prayer and turning my struggles over to God, I would be nothing, He is my Rock and my salvation.

Lets focus on just what is depression, you need to recognize and then accept that you have an actual problem. It is really easy to blame your problems on other people, but take a good hard look at yourself first. It's ok, we all make mistakes and take the wrong paths in life. I have taken many paths of resistance and learned how to get back on the right path again.

    From Healthline.com

Symptoms of depression can vary. They may manifest themselves differently from person to person. People who suffer from the condition often experience several of the following.

    Sadness

The most common symptom of depression is a feeling of sadness or emptiness that lasts for more than two weeks. In the case of dysthymia, it can last for longer than two years. Dysthymia is a type of chronic depression in which a person’s moods are consistently low.

    Worthlessness

Continual feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or helplessness often accompany the condition. People tend to focus on personal shortcomings or past failures and blame themselves when their life does not go the way they would like.

    Irritability

Depression may cause people to get easily frustrated or angered, even over small or insignificant matters.

    Fatigue

People with depression often experience lack of energy or feel tired all the time. Small tasks, like showering or getting out of bed, may seem to require more effort than one can manage.

    Crying Spells

Sufferers may find themselves crying frequently for no apparent reason.

    Apathy

People with depression commonly lose interest or stop finding pleasure in activities that they used to enjoy, including sex.

    Restlessness

Agitation and restlessness, including pacing, an inability to sit still, or hand wringing, may occur with depression.

    Lack of Concentration

People with depression may have a difficult time remembering, maintaining focus, or making decisions.

    Withdrawal

Many people with depression shut themselves off from the world. They may isolate themselves, not answer the phone, or refuse to go out with friends.

    Sleep Problems

People’s sleep habits are likely to change as a result of depression. They may not be able to fall asleep or stay asleep, or they may wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep. Other people may find they sleep for long periods and don’t want to get out of bed.

    Overeating or Loss of Appetite

Depression can often cause a lack of interest in food and weight loss. In other people, depression leads to overeating and weight gain.

    Thoughts of Suicide

Thinking or fantasizing about death is a serious sign that needs to be addressed right away.

    Physical Pain

Physical symptoms, such as body pain, headaches, cramps, and digestive problems also can occur.

Wow, do you have almost all of those symptoms, me too at one time or another. Taking it day by day for me is the best plan, thinking of what good things you have in your life instead of all the bad.

Getting help immediately for deep feelings of suicide or self harm is imperitive, it is not failure to want to kill yourself, I have had these feelings myself, attempted several times ( yes I am a suicide surviver and thankful for everyday I am alive now!) but there is help for those feelings and people that do care about you and love you, even though you hate yourself right now.

Take overwhelming projects in small sections will help you accomplish them and feel good about yourself.
I have this huge mess right now out in my sun-room, it seems to be a catch all for everything that I don't want to deal with. I know that it needs to be cleaned up and I stare at the overwhelming pile of mess everyday. That room has become a source of anxiety, depression and avoidance for me, so I made a choice to take that chore in small sections. I will update you on my progress, if you will share with me some of your overwhelming anxiety producers too, deal?

Let's sail our ships into the sunset each day with faith, hope and love. Praying for you until next time.

Finish Each Day and Be Done With It.....Learning How To Love You #love

We are nearing February, the month of #Love, for me it will be the one year anniversary of my mother's death. The last year has been a challenge for me, as I already suffer from chronic depression problems. I am slowly learning to love myself again and have been struggling to accept my life as it is now and move on. Join me for several posts about depression and how I have dealt with the crippling grip it can have on your life.

Finish Every Day and Be Done With It
You have done what you could
    Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in;
Forget them as soon as you can.
    Tomorrow is a New Day;
You Shall Begin It serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense

    7 Layer Cookie Bars #FoodieFriday

My mom made these delious 7 layer cookie bars every year and they were one of my favorite memories of Christmas. This will be our first holiday season without her and sad as it seems, I think she would want us to carry on her traditions. So I searched for the recipe and wanted to share it with you.
These bars are so yummy, the Eagle Brand sweet and condensed milk is what helps to make these so good.

Letting Go Of Your "Life Stuff" or "Junk In Your Trunk"

Just how much extra junk do you have in your "life" trunk? I am not talking about those extra pounds you are always dieting to get rid of either! I am talking about the crap that we see as important in our life, that really is not! The stuff that is always holding us back and making us feel miserable or less than worthwhile. My junk causes me more stress and anxiety it seems, how about you?

We all have junk... Yes I have been learning a hard lesson that some of this junk of mine needs to go, so the true woman in me can shine. The woman that God made to glorify Him and not myself or worldly possessions.

Here is a list of some Junk In The Trunk items for anybody to pray about and begin to work on...... one at a time:

    • Need to be perfect
    • Fear and worry
    • Comparing myself to others
    • Anxiety and stress
    • Trying to do it all
    • Multitasking and getting nothing done
    • Not saying No!
    • Saving everything "just in case I might need it"
    • Actual possessions that are just clutter
    • Lack of real organization in your home
    • Not Letting others be right (spouse)
    • Not Letting others help you
    • Constant thoughts of sadness since death of a loved one (for me my mom just passed away in Feb 2014)

There are many more I am sure, but I think you are catching my drift.

Below is a wonderful list from writer / speaker Brene Brown, if you have not heard her TED talks or read any of her books I strongly encourage looking her up.

This speaks mountains to me, I pray it will touch you today also.

    Be blessed today!

Next time let's talk about that list and how we can work thru it, one day at a time.
